Today we’re going to talk about trade-offs – for every plus you get from having surgery, there is a minus.
When you have an abdominoplasty for example, the pluses are a better shape, clothes fit, you can exercise more freely, etc. Now for the negatives… The first is the scar. It’s big. And it never goes away. Whilst in most people it can be happily hidden in their underwear, when you look in the mirror it will always be there. The majority of patients will have nice neat scars, but if you have loads of stretch marks or have had big weight loss, that isn’t always the case. So, this is the trade; better shape for big scar.
The next compromise is the short-term effect it will have on your daily routine and family life. Write off 6 weeks! That means no gym, no kinder run, no house work, no shopping, no life! If you are incapable of sitting still until I tell you otherwise, do not have this surgery. Your wounds will have problems and the result will be less than perfect.
My usual advice is get a serious Netflix addiction, get organised with meals in the freezer, organise someone to help you with your kids, the driving etc.
The scar takes a very long time to settle down and go pale. Usually 18 months in all and in some people longer. You need more patience than grasshopper off Kung Fu to get to where we want you to be. Sometimes the scar doesn’t come out well, and then I need to have another go – but that is rare.
Anyway, blog fansters, there are my words of wisdom on mummy makeovers for tonight, so sweet dreams and see you all tomorrow.
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
